Cheryl & Ben are hiking the 50 state high points and have completed 22 so far. Clingman’s Dome was number three and Black Mountain, KY was the most recent. Maddie has hiked alongside them 19 times. I got to meet her during the wedding and she was the cutest (see pooch flower crown). They got engaged on a vacation to Zion National Park while hiking the Virgin River. They decided on a small wedding at Spence Cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park- one of my all time favorite venues. The details for the day were seriously great: fox napkin rings, Megan Connors flowers, custom Coca-Colas, a pretty color palette, Otis Redding, birdseed favors, fox cake topper and eclectic place settings from Unique Setting Rentals. We spent some time exploring the forest and the historic Elkmont cottages before their ceremony by the stream.

Cheryl & Ben said some beautiful personal vows. They were full of history and story. Moms and Dads, aunts and cousins contributed to the ceremony with readings and poems, blessing the rings, signing the marriage license, lighting candles and intensely watching like they know something great is happening. I love this love story and am so happy I got to witness it. Thank you Cheryl & Ben!

Danielle & Zach started their married life by honeymooning and then moving across country to California. Before that amazing change took place they had a beautiful wedding at The Pavilion at Hunter Valley Farm in Knoxville, TN. I loved being a part of their day! There were so many sweet moments with the ring bearer and flower girl while getting ready. Danielle looked even more stunning than she already is with Beauty by Blair. She wore a gorgeous dress and veil with lots of delicate sparkle from Lillian Ruth Bride with her bridesmaids in a beautiful blue. Danielle & Zach saw each other for the first time at their outdoor ceremony overlooking the water with cousin Whitney officiating. The bride, groom and wedding party spent some time on property having portraits made with me before the reception in the sun filled pavilion at Hunter Valley Farm. Wedding pros Special Notes, Swank Floral, Barger’s Beer Truck and Bradford Catering made the reception very special for D&Z. Thank you for having me and congratulations!

This elopement- a perfect day. Courtney & David wanted a wedding day that was about the two of them and their marriage in a beautiful setting. We spent the day in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and had a great time wandering and taking portraits. I love taking couples around for photos during an elopement or full wedding day- it gives them a chance to spend some time together and relax. We got some great shots before their simple ceremony by a stream with a gorgeous mountain background. Courtney wore a cute short dress and carried a unique wooden bouquet (with matching boutonniere) from Rose Lily Florals they can keep forever. Her Etsy find shoes said “hello love”. Their families made them a quilt as a wedding gift and we made sure to get photographs of this very thoughtful gift. They set off for their honeymoon in Mexico right away to celebrate. I am so happy for them and glad I got to spend their wedding day with them in the mountains! Enjoy some of my favorite moments-

Megan & Erica had an amazing graffiti filled engagement session in Chicago and I have been excited about shooting and sharing their wedding ever since. I loved planning their photography, hanging out with them and knew it would be a truly special day. The wedding was held at Firehouse Chicago, a great Chicago venue for intimate weddings with beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. I have been shooting there for years and it’s one of my all time favorite wedding venues in the U.S. If you are interested in the venue for your wedding, I have many weddings posted on my blog that took place at Firehouse.

Firehouse Chicago has a beautiful suite with back porch where Megan & Erica got ready and relaxed before their ceremony and reception. Megan wore a gorgeous long sleeved gown from David’s Bridal and Erica wore a custom made ivory suit with amazing vest and jacket by Cathy Marsom from Richard Bennett Custom Tailors. We went out for portraits around town with their sisters and maids of honor before their outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour and reception.

I loved so many moments from this wedding- their beautiful clothing, listening to Destiny’s Child driving around for lakeside and city portraits, laughter and sweet vows during the ceremony, the “Hate Has No Home Here” signs, ginger beer during cocktail hour, the eucalyptus and deep red floral hues by Pen and Petals, the handmade details, incredible food by Brix Catering, Erica entering the reception to the Ghostbusters theme on the fireman’s pole and Megan making a grand entrance to “Shoop”, DJ Blakbird from Cage + Aquarium playing Britney’s “Work Bitch” and “All Night” by Chance the Rapper, Erica dancing to “The Thong Song” and meeting their very cool friends and family. Thank you Megan & Erica for having me! Enjoy-

Vika & Se had a beautiful summer wedding day in Chicago on the Anita Dee yacht. I loved their Ukrainian and Korean wedding and the cultural customs they incorporated into their day. In lieu of a traditional first look Se had to complete a set of tasks before seeing Vika in her beautiful wedding dress from Prague. While getting ready, everyone in the room kissed a piece of paper for Se to guess Vika’s lips. He nailed it with one guess. Vicki’s sister, mom and the rest of the ladies had Se touch everyone’s hands in the room and he also guessed correctly which ones belonged to Vika. He was then surprised with seeing her as a bride for the first time- priceless reaction. Se gave the mother of the bride a set of wooden geese. As geese mate for life, he was promising to care for his partner forever. They stepped on a beautiful rushnyk or embroidered cloth before they said their vows. Their ceremony was full of  joy and afterwards they had a lavender send off which smells amazing and is beautiful- new favorite.

We hopped in my car and headed off to the Lily Pool, Lincoln Park Zoo and Lake Michigan for photos on a gorgeous sunny day and met up with everyone afterwards at the dock where Vika & Se had their first dance and everyone boarded the Anita Dee yacht for the reception. They incorporated a version of the Korean p’ye-baek during the reception where parents throw dates and chestnuts that symbolize children and fertility at the bride and groom. Everyone was loving the views of Chicago from the lake and danced all night on the upper deck. The cake toppers were adorable and in traditional Ukrainian and Korean dress- gorgeous cake by Urban Icing. The night ended with an amazing fireworks display from Navy Pier. Thank you so much Vika & Se for having me as part of your incredible wedding day and congratulations!
