First dance song: “Is This Love” cover by Corinne Bailey Rae
It’s so awesome to have the opportunity to photograph a couple I have a connection with. Liz & Leah live in Chicago and were in the wedding party for Joann & Dawn’s wedding in Mexico this year. I loved being a part of their own wedding day in September.
I met up with them at the gorgeous art deco Palmer House Hilton hotel. Ok, can we talk about this couple’s serious sense of style? Leah was looking very dapper in a suit from J. Crew with incredible accessories and Liz wore a gorgeous, sexy short white dress from French Connection. They had their first look in the suite and we headed out for portraits on a hot day at the end of summer.
We started at The Adler Planetarium where I photographed them in the Doane Observatory, a lakefront large aperture telescope where they were letting the public view the sun that particular day. We hung out on the museum campus and along the lakefront for photos with a great city view, stopped along the way for snacks and drinks and finished shooting near their wedding venue, The Promontory. This new venue “is dedicated to celebrating the eras when spacious ballrooms and jumping jazz clubs made Chicago’s South Side the capital of American music” and has an incredible outdoor patio.
Liz & Leah’s friend Mike married them in a romantic ceremony, they had friends and family give heartfelt and hilarious impromptu speeches about how they got together- a charity dating auction that Leah said was the best money she’d ever spent, of course. The rest of the night was full of fun friends and family, cocktails and an amazing dance floor. It was great to see familiar faces from other weddings I shot in the past. I loved working with Sprout Home Chicago (Liz’s bouquet), Joe Kollege (DJ), and The Traveling Photo Booth. Emma Winter acted as their Wedding Coordinator. Liz’s makeup artist was Amber Rose and her hair stylist was Nicole LocStar Bennett of Loc ‘N Roll Hair Studio.
Thank you so much L&L for having me- everyone including me had an incredible time!
